Tips on Home Show Exhibiting! 1) Have a beautiful display. Do not just put out a table and a few flyers – that will not get you the sales you are here for. If you are a builder, have some miniatures, big photos, building supply samples. If you are a water company, sample your water to the customers - the longer you can keep them in your booth, talking to you, the better chance you have to sell them. 4) Have literature! Have flyers, postcards, business cards, and hand them out freely. They can’t call you later if they don’t have your contact info. Get pens made with your info on it, so they will be reminded of you every time they use it. 5) Don’t put a chair in your booth. If you are sitting down, you are less likely to grab a potential customer, and that is a sale lost. Sales staff should be outgoing, friendly, and available. 6) Make sure your sales staff is dressed appropriately. This is a business atmosphere, and business casual is the appropriate dress. No shorts, mini skirts, pink hair or nose rings. Those are great for the beach or to go clubbing, but it will turn off your potential customers, and they will go spend their money with someone else. 7) Do not leave the show until the show is closed. There are customers at the show until the minute we close, and a lot of times that is when they make their purchase – on their way out after they have seen everything. Same goes for getting there on time – if you are not in your booth when they walk by, they will not come back. The bottom line is you are here to make money, and you need to make the most of every opportunity. Face to face selling is the best way to make your sales, and we want you to make lots of sales! Good Luck and we’ll see you at the home show.
Top 10 ways to not make money at a home show:
10. Don’t be in your booth for the whole show – show up at 11 and leave at 4!
9. Show up for set up an hour before the show starts and have to carry all your stuff to your booth and finally finish setting it up 6 hours later!
8. Don’t tell your crew where your booth is, so they can spend 4 hours wandering the show until they find it!
7. Don’t work too hard on your booth – a table and a poster should be enough to show people what you do.
6. Make sure to bring a book and a chair, so you can show the potential customers how disinterested you are.
5. Don’t bother to spend money on printing flyers and cards – if they really want to use your services, they will find you.
4. Don’t waste payroll on staffing your booth - just set up your booth and leave it for the weekend.
3. Hang out at the bar and just check in on your booth occasionally – it is the weekend after all!
2. Make sure you visit all your neighbors and spend time socializing – it is much more important than gathering leads and making sales.
AND THE BEST WAY TO MAKE SURE YOU MAKE NO MONEY AT THE HOME SHOW:
1. Don’t show up at all!
